Seventy years ago the old hall was presented to the village by the USAF as they left the area post war. It served the purpose extremely well for many years. In recent years it became apparent that it couldn’t provide for the community in the twenty first century. The village has grown over the years, regulations have changed, and the community expectations have changed. The village hall was showing signs of age. The new village hall was in the planning stage for several years. When it became possible to request funding from the National Lottery Fund, a small very hard working committee, began setting in motion the task of applying to the lottery commission for funding. This proved to be a rather slow, arduous task, but the committee pursued and the grant was approved in 2013.
The new village hall was officially opened on 21 November 2014 by the 12th Duke of Grafton Since opening the hall has hosted over 5,000 events - an amazing achievement to say the least Honington Cum Sapiston - Suffolk's Most Active Village 2022 awarded by Suffolk County Council
10th Anniversary of the Village Hall 7 September 2024 - Picnic
Honington and Sapiston Village Hall marked its 10th Anniversary with a well attended community picnic. Local residents of all ages, (from babies to over 90 year olds), gathered on the field behind the hall and enjoyed sitting in the warm afternoon sun. The Hall Committee supplied baskets which contained the adult picnics with a small bottle of wine for each person. Children were given a choice of snacks and soft drinks and took full advantage of the large space and games provided. A very pleasant event to celebrate 10 years of events, activities and facilities provided by the hall.
