Hello everyone. As we fast approach the Christmas holiday season you will have had the Christmas Market, and Christmas Dinner before receiving this letter. The committee has decided to increase the hall hire charges from 1st January by a nominal amount of £1. Amazing value for money. The hourly rate for residents of Honington, Sapiston, and RAF Honington will be £16 per hour and non residents £21 per hour.

HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
We held a Remembrance Service for the whole school on 11 November. Our Collective Worship Group organised and ran our service this year, which was wonderful. We had been selling poppies as well so were able to donate a considerable amount to the Royal British Legion.
We held a non-uniform day for Children in Need so you may have seen our children around the village wearing ‘spots’, pyjamas or superhero costumes! Our Year 4’s thoroughly enjoyed a visit from a local beekeeper and later this month our younger children have a trip to the Apex to see an interactive and orchestral performance of The Robot & the Bluebird which should be amazing.
We have a busy time in school now as we prepare for all our seasonal activities - we will be starting rehearsals for our Christmas performances soon and are very excited for our Christmas Fair on Friday 6 December 3.30 – 5.30 pm. Everyone is welcome!

HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.
Twenty members met in the village hall and after the singing of Jerusalem and the roll call Tricia introduced the speaker, Alison Brain, whose talk was Uganda Crafts/Supporting a School.
Alison told us how she became involved with a school along with a young colleague, also a paediatric nurse, and travelled between England and Uganda for many years. Her main role was fundraising to extend the building and provide a kitchen, toilets and fresh water. They recently started a coffee business using beans from Uganda and expertise in Cambridge which has been a great success. There were harrowing stories as well as happy ones and Alison is passionate about what she does to help so many children in such dire circumstances. She had many colourful items for sale, some made in Uganda and some made in England using fabric from Uganda. A very interesting and moving talk.
The monthly competition was judged by Alison with 1st Natalya, 2nd Anne W and 3rd Sue S. Natalya now holds the Kath Balaam Cup for a year. Congratulations Natalya.
Next month's meeting, on 10th December, will start at 7 o'clock and is a Christmas Quiz and Fizz evening. We were re- minded that Doreen and Julia are still collecting postage stamps.
CAMERA CLUB
Our November meeting had us tackle the task of "Action" which proved to be a challenging subject. However with 60 images shown on the evening we enjoyed an excellent range of subject matter and some interesting interpretations! Our year comes to an end with our December gathering with "Fungi and Macro" as our subject challenges. Why not come along and see what we get up to and perhaps look to join us for our 2025 season. Email [email protected] for more information or pop along for a 7 pm start on December 17th in the village hall.

CAMERA CLUB
Our October meeting was an extremely enjoyable practical evening led by local photographer, Lucy Kayne. Using phones and cameras to capture, via longer exposure times, the movement of LED torches in a darkened main hall. Some weird and wonderful images were taken. Please go to www.hsvh.org.uk/camera-club.html to view recent images.
Our November 19th meeting at 7 pm has “Action” as our subject task. Email [email protected] for more information.

FOR THE LOVE OF ART
Just like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped me with the art exhibition and craft fair, it was a great success and everyone enjoyed the talent from our group. We even got four people interested in joining which would be amazing. Now looking forward to our Christmas party. Netty Mendez.

VILLAGE HALL
Hello, what a lovely day we had for our 10th anniversary picnic on the 7th September - a well-attended event and so many lovely comments. Thank you, Linda & Sue, for getting the grant and organising. We had our AGM on 19th when a lot was discussed - forward planning of events in 2025 plus the general maintenance of the hall. One of the most urgent requirements is the ceiling emergency lighting which needs to be replaced plus also the 10-year electrical certificate - as you can imagine both are quite costly items so it will be another fundraising year at the hall. Linda has applied for a grant which may cover these - so fingers crossed. It was decided not to have a Halloween party this year due to up and coming financial commitments in 2025 but a possible Easter Egg Hunt for the younger residents of our villages.
This month’s community lunch will be on Thursday 10th October. Doors open 12.30, lunch 13.00. On the menu is Bangers and Mash or Chicken a la King followed by Treacle Sponge, Tea & Coffee for £8.00. Raffle and Play Your Cards Right.
Please call 01359 268880 (answer machine) to order your menu choice, or email me on [email protected] before 11.00 on Friday 4th October.
Due to work commitments and the hall being booked there will be no community supper this month, but of course we do have the Christmas do to look forward to on 30th November.
CHRISTMAS MEAL
Thanks to everyone who has booked places for our Christmas Meal. Tickets are being issued as people pay. Please check that you receive the correct tickets and that any special diets are booked. Thanks LH
VILLAGE SHOW
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Village Show either by entering the competitions, donating raffle prizes or coming along during the afternoon. It was such a lovely afternoon and after the expenses of hiring the hall and a few sundries, we were able to donate £700 to the village hall fund, which we have requested is used towards a community event for the whole village. So well done everyone! The Village Show Team.
CHRISTMAS MARKET
Our annual Christmas market is on 17th November and we would very much appreciate donations for the raffle. You can drop them off to us at Homelea, Church Road, Honington IP31 1RG, or we can collect them from you. Thank you.
BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
We had a most productive day in September, with a lot of clearing. Our next workday is October 5th at 9am; Mark has been promised 50 barefoot trees, which we can plant if they arrive. The police investigated the damage to the “bus shelter” in the field, but although they know the culprit, the case was not pursued due to lack of evidence. The landing stage has been attacked again. HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.
This meeting took the form of a games evening, with plenty of games to choose from as well as refreshments. Members also brought photos of themselves aged between 10 and 20 years old, and these formed a quiz, where people had to guess who was in each picture. Julia R won this by recognising 15 people out of 17! Elaine was recognised the least often from her picture so won first place, with Doreen and Sonia as joint second, and Val N third. Our next meeting is on the subject of Family Farming at Jubilee Farm (Great Barton). If you would like to try a WI meeting (free of charge!) do just come along - or contact Tricia tel. 268442 or email [email protected] to find out more.
CHURCH NEWS
Thank you to everyone who made the church look so beautiful for our Harvest Festival and to everyone who bought tickets for the lunch, wonderfully presented by Ian, at the end of September. Congratulations go to the Monthly Money Draw winners in September who were Annette Waterman, Sally and Tim Fogden and Pam and Roger Walton. We hope to start a new Draw in November, and if you wish to join in, please let Marion Cusworth know tel. 269492 or see her at the Coffee Morning on 1st October 10.30am. A year’s subscription is £15 with 3 winners each month. Our Everyone Together Special Service this month will be a Pet Service held in the church on Sunday 6th October at 3.30pm. “Something different” was requested when we did a survey asking what type of service people would like Karen to hold, so please do come along with your pet (dog, cat, chicken, tortoise or even a photo of your pet) and join us for an informal short service, we look forward to meeting them. Karen will be holding a short Morning Prayer in Honington church every Tuesday which can also be seen on Facebook at 9am each time.

VILLAGE HALL
As we approach the autumn months the hall is starting to gear up to a busy time with many parties and events taking place. It seems hard to believe that we held our first ever event in the new hall on 6th September 2014 - a children’s party - and on the Monday 8th the first PC meeting was held in the new hall. A rough calculation would be that over 4600 events have been hosted at the hall - an average 1.5 per day. We had a very trying time during Covid. The hall survived only through the efforts of Linda Howe and Sue Jay applying for and being granted with various grants. A special thank you to our Parish Council, Lady Henrietta St George, Suffolk Community Foundation, Suffolk County Councillor Joanna Spicer and West Suffolk Councillor Andrew Smith to name but a few. Our grateful thanks go to you, the local residents, who attend and support the hall and its many community events, especially during the energy crisis by completing direct debits, fund raising, donating, which ensured the hall could stay open over the winter. The loss of Trevor Jay (late chairman) who put so much effort into getting the new hall built by liaising with builders, contractors, architects, suppliers etc is sadly missed by all the committee. Len Newman has proved to be a worthy replacement for Trevor, his efforts on the boiler, energy costing and finance ensures that this winter will be easier than last year.
The Village Hall AGM is on 19th September at 19.00 and everyone is welcome to attend.
Community Lunch this month is on Thursday 12th. Doors open 12.30 lunch 13.00. On the menu is Chicken Leek and Ham Pie, Lamb Casserole, or vegetarian Option followed by Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding, Tea and Coffee for £8.00. Please place your menu choice by 11.00 on Friday 6th - 01359 268 880 or email me [email protected]
Community Supper is on Friday 27th. Doors open 19.00 supper 19.30ish. On the menu is Fish Pie, Ian’s Steak and Ale Pie or Vegetarian Lasagne, followed by various puddings and cheese for £8.00. BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
The Team did path clearing in August, certainly a difficult task as all so overgrown. The hedge along the path was cut. Mark and I have since cut the fallen tree over one path and mowed the paths. The September meeting is on Saturday 7th at 9am by the sewage works, all welcome, preferably with gloves and cutters. GS
CAMERA CLUB
The August meeting was very successful with a high entry and great quality subject matter from all members. Our next meeting is on September 17th with double tasks of "Clouds (skyscapes) and Seascapes”. It should once again prove to be a very enjoyable evening and if you are at all interested in image taking then come along, at no cost, to see what we get up to. We meet in the village hall at 18.45 for a 19.00 start. Call Howard on 01359 268763 for further information.

We were pleased to welcome Sarah Bullen, from Still Good Food, as our speaker. Based at the Freedom church in Great Barton, Still Good Food receives donations of food at or near its sell by date from all the major supermarkets. Anyone can then go and make a donation (minimum £3!) for a bag of food chosen from their shelves. Sarah explained that local farmers also donate produce, such as apples etc, which have been rejected by supermarkets
or form a glut. Sarah stressed that the charity is not a foodbank, it is open to anyone, as its primary purpose is to prevent food waste. She had some incredible statistics about how much food we waste in the UK each day. Anyone wishing to visit Still Good Food in Great Barton or at Elsey’s Yard in Bury (an alleyway near where Wilko used to be) can find their website at www.stillgoodfood.org or find them on Facebook to see their opening hours.
Our competition was “The oldest Item in your kitchen cupboard”, and was won by Anne W with Alison and Christine second and third.
Our next meeting, a games evening, will take place on September 10th.
If you would like to try a WI meeting (free of charge!) do just come along - or contact Tricia tel. 268442 or email [email protected] to find out more.

GS

Our next meeting is on September 17th with double tasks of "Clouds (skyscapes) and Seascapes”. We meet in the village hall at 18.45 for a 19.00 start. Call Howard on 01359 268763 for further information.
HONINGTON & SAPISTON W.I.

BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
Everything is growing! We had a most successful June work day and the team were able to push my ride-on out of the mud, which saved the day!
Our next workday is Saturday 6th July at 9am, when we will start to clear the ivy from the Hawthorns as well as normal clearing. All welcome, especially with cutting equipment. Giles Smith
FOR THE LOVE OF ART
Hi there, happy painters, what an exciting event coming up in July! LADIES DAY at Newmarket races, then will have another event going to the coast painting. Also welcome Kath Moss to our group. Our group is growing by the minute and has got such amazing artists. We are also going to do some lino cutting if anyone is interested, Netty Mendez.
HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
A busy time in school this term. Our Year 5 class thoroughly enjoyed creating some beautiful flower displays for the Euston Flower Festival at the beginning of June. Three of our older classes had an outing to West Stow Anglo Saxon village where they were encouraged to be investigators in the village settlement and handled replica finds in the Anglo Saxon museum. Our younger children had a visit to Lackford Lakes and took part in lots of fun activities organized by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust staff. Activities included birdwatching, pond-dipping, creating natural art and learning about trees and minibeasts!
Lots of fun outdoor learning.
CHURCH NEWS
We had a special part of the Family service in June to celebrate the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Christine and Eddie Leiper, many congratulations to you both. The winners of the Monthly Money Draw were Allan Johnson, Linda and Robin Howe and Julie Roberts. We will hold the next Draw on Tuesday 2nd July at our monthly Coffee Morning. Do come along and have a social hour with friends over a cup of coffee and cake. On Sunday 7th we are manning a stall, selling all types of produce from 10am till 4 pm at the Village Fayre in the Hall. Any donations are most welcome. Thank you to Terry who has
worked hard keeping the fast growing grass in the churchyard down. Please try to keep to the national churchyard rules which are displayed on both our notice boards. They include no ornaments, plastic flowers or glass containers. Pots of plants must not hamper the mowing of the grass. In June we had the funeral of Daphne Huffee, our thoughts are with her relatives and friends. May she rest in peace. Our Special Service this month is titled Wild Water and we will meet with Karen near the decking by the side of the river at Honington at 4 pm on 7th July.
HONINGTON & SAPISTON WI
Twenty-seven members gathered on a chilly June evening to enjoy the monthly WI meeting. After the singing of Jerusalem, the giving of birthday posies and the amusing roll-call, Tricia introduced the speaker, Cheryl Brighty.
Cheryl told us the history of chocolate while making chocolates and explaining what she was doing. The chocolates she made were delicious. She told us that the price of the chocolate she uses has gone up 100% this year. It was a very enjoyable demonstration. After refreshments we had time to listen to Joanne's report of the National Federation meeting she attended at the Royal Albert Hall. Joanne recommended all members try to attend one of these meetings. The competition, a poem about chocolate, was won by Lucy with 2nd Julia R and 3rd Val N. Lucy now has the Josie Goddard Plaque for a
year and it will go with the Cath Balaam Cup she won in November with her decorated homemade biscuits. Congratulations Lucy. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
CAMERA CLUB
Our June meeting produced some really interesting and well taken photographs of "Abandoned Buildings and "Sculpture." Some excellent creativity and observations of everyday landmarks.
For our July 16th meeting the task is "Shoes & Hats" - an interesting challenge I'm sure!
Interested in photography? Then please come along to the village hall for a 7 pm start - you will be made most welcome.
Email [email protected] if you have any questions.

Look around, look online - open your eyes to the natural world all around us and use our brilliant, recently updated websites to discover a variety of activities available right here in Honington & Sapiston. The new revised formats are easy to use - a boon for those of us who are not ‘tech wizards’ - and open a world of social and cultural activities held at the hall every week.
VILLAGE SHOW
You should have all received a flyer detailing this year’s village show on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August (there are spares in the village hall) and the programmes and entry forms will be coming soon. Hopefully the weather will be kind and allow some wonderful flowers, fruit and vegetables, but if not then please enter one of the craft or baking competitions! The show is very light hearted, a chance for our community to come together for a couple of hours, to have a chat and a piece of cake!
As always we are in need of raffle prizes. These can be dropped off to Ian at the hall or Carol/ Howard at Boreham House.
Also could we please ask all cup winners from last year to contact Stephen Reid (07913 021217) by the end of July to arrange their return? Many thanks. Carol King

CHURCH NEWS
Thank you to everyone who helped make both of our churches look so lovely at Easter and the donated lilies gave every-where such a wonderful perfume. The lucky winners of the April Money Draw were Albert and Molly Lambert, Sally and Tim Fogden and Libby Balaam. Lots of people have asked for a more informal worship tied to our rural setting and in the afternoon, so we will be introducing one at 3.30pm on the first Sunday of every month. Each of these services will be different and may move about the village. A list of future different 3.30pm services are on the church noticeboards. Our service this month, on 5 May, Matthew Hawthorne has kindly offered to take us on a tractor ride. (This one will take about 2 hours.) There are a limited number of seats so please contact Marion Cusworth tel. 269492 should you wish to join us. Our APCM will be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 16 May in the Village Hall. Now that there is a compost area in the churchyard all dead flowers and foliage may be discarded there, but please put any old silk or plastic flowers and wreaths in the normal waste bin. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Jacklin family after the death of June Jacklin. Marion Cusworth

This month all three sections have celebrated St George’s day on a Sunday afternoon, with our annual district parade in Bury St Edmunds. A beautiful spectacle of flags, Scouts and Guides accompanied by a marching band. Beavers have also been practicing and delivering some maypole dancing at Pakenham watermill, and beginning our gardening badge. Cubs started the term enjoying the lighter evenings with some outdoor games, also looking at road safety and the red six have helped lead the artists’ badge. Scouts enjoyed a survival camp during the Easter holidays, thankfully they all survived! They started the term with a forum to decide what activities they would like to do this term, and enjoyed some outdoor cooking over the fire! Jan Neary [email protected]

By now most of you should have received an envelope containing draw tickets. We are holding a St George’s Day draw on 23 April as a fundraiser for the Hall. If you are able to buy the tickets yourself, or sell to friends and family, this would be a great help in our fundraising efforts. Please return tickets to the Hall or to Sue Jay at Bloomfield Farmhouse, Mill Road Honington. If you would like more, or haven’t had them put through your door, they are available at the Hall or from Sue. Good Luck and thank you for your support. Sue Jay
The Village Hall Committee would like to thank all those who pledged a monthly contribution or gave a donation for their generous support of the hall. We have managed to find several ways to reduce our energy costs, which will help avoid the “winter crisis” in future. We have obtained a grant via West Suffolk Council to develop the field behind the Hall which we rent from Euston Estates. This money can only be spent on outside groundwork and will enable us to get full use of the area. Linda Howe
I hope everyone had a good Easter. As many will be aware the Honington & Sapiston Village Hall website is being updated by Harriet van der Lande and is more user friendly and brighter. CHURCH NEWS
We were all shocked and saddened with the news of the sudden death of Gill Farrow, a dear friend to so many people in our villages and a very loyal member of our church over so many years. We are also sad to learn that Helen Bedford’s dad died last month. May they both rest in peace. In April we will be going back to holding a Coffee Morning on the first Tuesday of each month, so we hope to see you on Tuesday, 2 April in the village hall at 10.30am. Last month when we had the Monthly Money Draw the lucky winners were Ian PP, Nettie Mendez and Albert and Molly, so congratulations. In May, on the 1st Sunday of the month we are going to be holding an extra service with a difference at 3.30 in the afternoon, this follows from a discussion held when everyone in the village was invited to let us know what type of service they would like held in the future. Please make a note of the date, 5th May, to come and join us. Marion Cusworth

Many of you in Honington and Sapiston will remember my dear Sue who lived with me at Manor Farm House for 5 years before we moved to North Norfolk. March has been another busy month. Four Beavers joined the village litter pick, helping to make the village more attractive for people and animals. We have been meeting some millipedes, bearded dragons and geckos. We've had our Beavers got talent (BGT) where we had a comedian win! We've learnt about Beavers in other countries and enjoyed some Easter fun! Cubs have been making some lovely crafts for their Mums, they had a games night, made some lovely Easter crafts and celebrated the festival of holi. Scouts have been using their paracord skills to create a mother's day present, been working on their air activities 2 badge, learnt how to pack a rucksack, and enjoyed a games night. Jan Neary [email protected]
HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
We have been busy celebrating Numbers Day, World Book Day and Red Nose Day. We have held parents’ evenings and also invited parents in to take part in experiments with their children to coincide with Science Week. Sports clubs on offer this half term are Football, Dodgeball and Multi-skills and some of budding basketballers took part in an inter-school com- petition at Beyton.
We recently had our SIAMS (church school) inspection and the report has now been finalised and published. It is an amaz- ing report and we are delighted with how well the Inspector understood the strengths and vision of our community and what makes our school so special. The inspector said "Pupils, staff and governors live out the Christian vision in every aspect of school life. It is the universal motivating force behind everyone's shared commitment to high aspiration for them- selves and for each other". Summer Term begins on Friday, 15 April.
VILLAGE SHOW
This year's village show will be on Bank Holiday Monday, 26 August. We hope to deliver flyers containing all the information about the various classes sometime in April. If anyone has any suggestions of ways to improve the show please contact me by e-mail. Thank you. Carol King: [email protected]

THE BRIDGE
Since the bridge was damaged last April, the Parish Council has on numerous occasions asked Suffolk County Council for a date when the repairs will be carried out. Messrs KEIR visited the village in June and carried out an estimate for the repair that would be subject of an insurance claim. KEIR lost the maintenance contract in September and subsequent enquiries by the PC failed to obtain a date for the repair. If you wish to register your personal disappointment, you may wish to write to SCC CEO: Ms Nicola Beach, Chief Executive Officer, Suffolk County Council, Endeavour House, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX [email protected]
VILLAGE HALL
Hello everyone, the March diary at the hall is looking good and bookings are flooding in for the rest of the year, so if you are planning an event please visit the website www.hsvh.org.uk and fill out a booking enquiry form and book your date to avoid disappointment. Len Newman our chairman (along with other members of the committee) are working hard to reduce running costs at the hall after the escalation of costs last year. It was decided at the last committee meeting to no longer run the app as it would cost too much to keep it operating.

Held in the wonderful surroundings of Euston Park, with tremendous support from the owners and staff of Euston Estate, the event was entirely run by a team of volunteers, keen to work as part of a team to raise money for charity by attracting large crowds of the public to see the ring events, classic cars, tractors, steam and stationary engines, along with trade stands, craft stalls, Church flower festival and heavy horse show among the many attractions. Many families came year after year, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The various organisers over the years of the event would like to thank everyone that has been involved, whether as exhibitor, stall holder, helper or by attending for helping to make the event what it was. Since having to cancel the 2020 event owing to the Covid 19 pandemic, the 2021, 2022 and 2023 events were held on a much reduced scale, still raising significant sums of money. It has been decided, as the time comes for all good things to end, this event is no different, and we can finish on a high, with many wonderful memories and thanks to everyone involved over the years for a superb job done. BLACKBOURNE TREE GROUP
We are so grateful to the Parish Council for the financial support given to us for a further year. I have planted a cotoneaster in the school grounds with the assistance of Oak class. It was chosen as, unlike oaks, it will survive shady conditions. Our first work day is Saturday, 2 March at 09.00, when we will continue the path clearance started in January with the invaluable help of David van Lande. Our annual AGM meeting will be at 19.00 at the village hall on Thurs- day, 7 March, followed by supper, partners included. Please let me know if you can join us. [email protected]

HONINGTON AND SAPISTON WI
This month our speaker Sara Doig gave an informative talk entitled The Real Basil Brown. Basil Brown was involved in the discoveries at Sutton Hoo but Sara gave us information about many aspects of the life of this Rickinghall man who was interested in archaeology and astronomy and kept detailed notes of his work. After refreshments Tricia gave details of many federation events as detailed in The Hive. Suzannah has organised a trip to the Theatre Royal to see backstage and hear some history. This takes place on Saturday, 16 March at 10.30 at a cost of £10 or £5 for National Trust members. The competition “a found treasure" was judged by the speaker. Val N was 3rd with a rock/bone (I wasn't sure which) found on a beach, Lucy was 2nd with her great grandmother's WI badge found when her house was cleared and Harriet was 1st with 2 small wooden toys found when they pulled up some floorboards. Sally proposed a scheme for sending postcards to people in care homes. Many residents of care homes miss the news of their former villages and a monthly card with a little local news would be welcome. Sally has lots of postcards available to those taking part. If you would like to come along to a meeting and see what the WI has to offer, please contact Tricia tel 268442 or email [email protected] to find out more. Or come along!
1ST HONINGTON (RAF) SCOUT GROUP
February has seen Beavers celebrating children's mental health day with some neighbouring colonies, taking part in yoga, and crafting a breathing dragon and calming glitter bottle. Also, we celebrated Pancake Day, found out about our founder Baden-Powell and went for a hike at Bradfield woods. Cubs have been completing some airfix models, these took a total of 3 weeks, finishing the month with a game of bowling. Scouts have been continuing to develop their navigation skills, they took part in some amazing pancake art and practiced their pioneering to create camp gadgets. If anyone is interested in helping as a leader or as a trustee please do get in touch. There are many different ways you can help the group. Jan Neary [email protected]

PARISH COUNCIL
- Litter picking equipment has been booked for Sunday, 3 March. Please join us at 10.30 at Honington Green or Sapiston Green to help keep the village looking wonderful for the arrival of spring. We look forward to seeing you.
- The Parish Council has received a request for considerate parking around the area of the school. This is always a difficult area to negotiate at drop off and pick up times so we appreciate your consideration.
- Notification of the Local Plan for 12 Dwellings on Troston Road and 10 on Bardwell Road was given in the February newsletter. If you wish to comment on these developments, you may do so at: [email protected]
Community Lunch will be on Thursday, 14 March. On the menu bangers & mash, or chicken, leek & ham pie followed by fruit crumble, tea and coffee - £8.00. To place your order drop me an email [email protected] or call and leave a message on 01359 268880 on or before 15.00 on Friday, 8 March. Raffle and Play Your Cards Right. Doors open at 12.30, lunch 13.00.

VILLAGE HALL APPEAL
Like every home and business, the Hall has had rising fuel costs, and although we have found ways of reducing our energy costs, our charges for the boiler’s wood chips and electricity have risen sharply recently. It currently costs over £100 a day to run the Hall.
At the same time the rebate we get from the government has not increased. We continue to seek grant funding and have been very grateful to the Parish Council and the Christmas Fair for helping us to manage so far.
Therefore, to avoid having to close the hall for the winter months we are launching an appeal to seek to raise funds to meet the rising costs of fuel for the Village Hall.
If you feel able to give us either a one-off donation, or a monthly donation it would help us to keep the Hall open. (We have already had an offer of £10 a month from one parishioner). The Standing Order only needs completing if you are making a MONTHLY donation.
If you feel able to contribute any amount, however small, please complete the enclosed forms and return to Linda Howe (Harlequin Cottage, Church Road, Honington) or Ian Patterson-Parker at the hall.
HONINGTON CEVCP SCHOOL
We have had a busy start to the term and have welcomed several new families to our school community. We celebrated Epiphany with a lovely service from Vicar Karen and you may have seen us walking around the village wearing crowns and following the star! We have had several sports clubs start this term – basketball, yoga and football which have been well supported. We had a visit from a UK Parliament representative who spoke to our older children about the work of Parliament – the role of MPs, the House of Lords and how Laws are made – very interesting and informative.
CHURCH NEWS
Congratulations to the winners in the January Monthly Money Draw, they were Sally and Tim Fogden, Robert Balaam and Albert and Molly Lambert. Thank you to everybody who helps to fill up the box in the church porch with their used printer ink cartridges. I was able to send off a full box, the money it raises goes towards the running costs of the church. There is a replacement box ready for your donations! Thank you also to all those who came to our discussion in church regarding what kind of services people would like us to hold in the future. A date for your diaries: on 23rd March we are holding a fund raising Afternoon Tea with musical accompaniment in the Village Hall. Tickets are available from Marion Cusworth tel 269492. We will be holding another Soup and Cheese lunch in the Hall on Tuesday 6th February
12.30 for 1pm. Easter is early this year, where we hope to decorate the church with beautiful lilies that are in memory of those we have loved. Should you wish to donate towards them, please contact Marion in good time so that they can be ordered from the florist. Sadly Claire, our organist, feels she is unable to carry on playing for us on a regular basis due to her ill health. So we are looking to find someone who could replace her. If anyone can help us in our search, please do contact Marion Cusworth. Our Rector Karen Burton can be contacted on 07546 491388.
CAMERA CLUB
Our first meeting of the year was a great success with an informative talk on drone photography. The guest speaker showed a great range of images, many familiar to us at ground level, but viewed directly overhead was an amazing and extremely interesting experience. The images collated from East Anglia and then from around the UK coastline had many attendees keen on acquiring their own drone!
Our February 20th meeting has a theme of "Musically Related-Song or Instrument". Come along and see what goes on.
6.45 pm in the main hall. Call Howard 01359268763 for more info.
HONINGTON AND SAPISTON WI
The roll call, A Childhood Friend, elicited some lovely responses, of friendships lasting 60 years in some cases.
Sally Fogden was our speaker, on the subject of The Rural Coffee Caravan. Sally gave an entertaining, brief talk about the caravan, from its inception to its current form. Christine Congdon, a member who volunteers with the caravan, also helped to explain its role. The caravan visits isolated villages in Suffolk, bringing good coffee, lovely cakes and information for residents where needed. It is particularly important to have such a service in rural communities which can be isolated.
The four resolutions were read aloud and discussed. These are matters of concern to us all, nationally, and the WI commits to raising awareness of the issue, chosen from the four options, politically and generally.
Tricia talked through some information about the WI both locally and nationally so that newer members could feel better informed.
Gill Farrow won the competition, A Limerick about the Coffee Caravan, with Anne Walker 2nd and Chris Leiper and Carol Littlewood joint 3rd.
We were pleased to donate the money we had saved by not exchanging Christmas cards to the Caravan.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 13th February when our speaker will be historian Sarah Doig on The Real Basil Brown. If you would like to try the WI, do come along - or contact Tricia tel. 268442 or email honingtonandsapis- [email protected] to find out more.
